Everything You Need To Know About Patio Deck Designs

If you have wanted to revamp the outdoor areas of your home, you should consider installing a deck. Not only will it make your backyard more liveable, but it will also add value to your property. There are plenty of patio deck designs that are easy to build, and it is not that difficult to learn how to install them. Doing it yourself will cost less, and could save you hundreds of dollars.

Before you start your project, take a look at some wood deck designs. There are many different deck plans that will tell you what type of materials you will need, and what type of wood is best for your new outdoor living area.

Deck Awnings and Railings

Some patio designs include retractable awnings, porches, and railings. Retractable awnings protect you from the sun during the day, and still enable you to star gaze at night. If you have small children, or plan to build a deck that is high off the ground, railings for decks are a must.

Decorating a Deck

Once you have decided on the kind of deck you want, it is important to think about decorating. If you have deck decorating ideas, sketch them out on paper so you can get a general idea of how everything will look. You may want to add additional seating, outdoor lighting, a built-in BBQ, a fire pit, or even an outdoor kitchen. Some people get very creative, and include water features that are built right into the deck. Brick looks great, and is an additional feature that you may want to include in your new patio. The possibilities are endless.

It is important to know how to lay pavers if you plan to include them in your overall design plan. Pavers can be built into the structure of the deck, or you can use them as stepping stones leading up to the porch.

Knowing what you want to build before hand will make your project go much smoother. Make sure that the deck design you choose covers everything you need. Purchasing inferior plans could end up costing you more time and money in the long run.

The choice between adding a brick patio or a wooden deck to a yard should depend on the house and the layout. A bricked are is nice for smaller yards where houses are close together. Being ground level you have more privacy. Up on a deck - wouldn't work in some scenarios.

I grew up with a patio which was fairly easy to maintain especially since it was partially enclosed. Patios were more popular back in the 60s and 70s. Then people started putting wooden decks around pools and eventually building beautiful decks. It seems like they're a lot more versatile than patios.

I bought a house after my divorce but had to down size to afford it. My 2 daughters and I were a bit cramped. I inherited a little bit of money and decided a deck would be worth the expense. And it really was. I found we enjoyed the nice weather more and the extra room was very much appreciated.

I wouldn't rush into any particular design for a deck. Check out friends and neighbor's and be more observant about the layouts and how it compliments the house. Just don't think you have to add a square or rectangular boring deck with no pizazz.

I've already owned a couple of homes, and I consider any home that comes with a quality deck or patio a big plus in my book. Being able to enjoy the outdoors in good weather is something I really enjoy.

We bought a house with a flagstone covered patio. But we soon found out it was deteriorating. Unfortunately, we had to replace the whole thing - and it cost quite a bit but with kids and a pool, we almost had no choice. We get a lot of use and enjoyment having it in the yard.

Due to money issues we did our covered patio in stages. It was due to money limitations but I preferred it that way because it helped with some of the decision making. Living with just the patio floor for a year, I knew what my priority was for the following year. We added an awning.

I got a few ideas by picking up magazines that are special issues focusing on the backyard and specifically adding decks and patios. I found the best selection at Home Depot.

We enjoy warm weather most of the year. My neighbor had a new wooden deck added last year. That actually helped me to come up with a design of my own. I saw the shortcomings of his design and also found part of the design that I like. That helped me to come up with a plan.

I wish we could have splurged more on our patio but we had a certain budget to stick to. That is my one regret but we get so much enjoyment from the patio we did install -it makes me happy we didn't wait even one more year to save up to invest more in the patio. We are really enjoying spending more time outside.

We decided to add a patio using pavers. A local company offers a nice variety of attractive blocks in addition to having contractors they work with for installation. It turned out beautiful and we haven't had any issues with shifting or moving of the pavers.

We weren't aware of the deck design software until a friend suggested it. It made it much easier to get us motivated to come up with designs. We needed a little push and planning it out with the software made it fun.

We have a brick patio that came with our house that has been neglected. After seeing some of the suggestions here, I'm psyched to spruce it up a bit and take advantage of what I have.

I had just divorced and bought my new little home for me and the kids. Fortunately, a good friend of mine was a contractor and I hired him to build my little deck. I spent less than $5000 but have been so please with the enjoyment I get from my deck. Our house is small so it's a nice way to gain some space.

We live in the northeast and when the weather is cooperating, we spend a lot of time on our deck. We feel the investment we put into the deck has been well worth the enjoyment we've been getting from it.

I inherited a little money and wanted to put it into my home. I have a beautiful private backyard and decided a deck would be a great idea. No regrets - and the extra space has really helped with our living space. My house is less than 1000 square feet so a 12x12 deck really helps give us some elbow room.

My family home had a great patio and that's where we spent most summer days with the family and it was place to hang out with friends at night. We got a ton of use out of it as I knew that my family would now. We've gotten a lot of use from out patio as I predicted.
